Born in Saint Ann, Jamaica, as Robert Nesta Marley, his father was a British Army Officer, Norval St. Clair Marley, and his mother was a Jamaican grocer, Cedella Malcolm (Booker).

He is best remembered for bringing mainstream cultural acceptance of reggae music outside of Jamaica. His music was especially popular in Africa due much to its smooth combination of Jamaican and African musical sources.

He was buried with his favorite guitar, a red Fender Stratocaster (some accounts say it was a Gibson Les Paul). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Reggae fans journey here to the world-renowned musician's birth and burial place in the small hamlet of Nine Mile. Guests receive a tour of Marley's
childhood home, a two-room cottage, packed with family keepsakes, as well
as the adjacent mausoleum of Bob and his half-brother. There is an on-site
vegetarian restaurant and a small gift shop selling Marley memorabilia.

Bob Marley Mausoleum and Bob Marley centre are great attractions available to tourists visiting Ocho Rios in Jamaica. The mausoleum is located in small hamlet called Nine Mile that houses both birth place and burial place of Bob Marley, his childhood home and a cottage with two rooms that contains Bob Marley family keepsakes.
